The League of Women Voters, San Luis Obispo County, joins the California League of Women Voters, the California Chamber of Commerce, AARP, the California State Sheriffs Association, the Vietnam Veterans of California and others in support of Proposition 1C.
Proposition 1C is part of the Rebuild California Plan to build the roads and flood-control systems needed in California. The longer we wait to do such work, the higher the cost. The work is needed now.
Proposition 1C creates a trust fund to provide and repair shelters and housing for battered women and homeless families with children and foster youth; clean and safe homes for senior citizens and homeownership assistance through grants for working families, military veterans and the disabled. It also provides low-interest loans for development of affordable rental housing.
It is expected that the bond will be funded out of existing state resources without raising taxes. It requires annual audits and a limit on administrative expenses.
A yes vote on Proposition 1C authorizes bond funds that will increase the supply of affordable housing and help rebuild California’s infrastructure. The League of Women Voters recommends a yes vote on Proposition 1C.
