Prop 1C Implementation Underway!

Homes4CA
Implementation is now underway for Prop. 1C -- The Housing & Emergency Shelter Trust Fund Act of 2006. In November 2006, California voters approved Prop. 1C, which funded existing affordable-home programs and created new programs. For the status of each program, we encourage you to visit the following websites:

Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD)

The following programs are still being finalized:

California Housing Consortium (CHC)

CHC's mission is to collaborate among housing providers, business leaders, non-profit organizations, and government at all levels to increase the availability of rental and homeownership housing for low-to-moderate-income Californians. CHC's advocacy efforts are focused on creating and preserving sustainable communities that are essential to the state's prosperity. Be sure to visit CHC's Policy Watch page.

Housing California

Housing California believes the solution to California’s broken housing market is increasing the supply and variety of decent, safe, and affordable homes that meet the different needs of Californians at all income levels. Be sure to bookmark Housing California's Policy & Legislation page. You can also sign up to receive Housing California's policy and legislative updates (the Capitol Reporter) and Action Alerts delivered straight to your inbox!

We appreciate your interest in making affordable homes a priority in California and ensuring that all Californians have a safe, decent place to live.

What's Next? Secure a Permanent Source of Funding for Affordable Homes

The success of Prop. 46 and Prop. 1C were huge steps in the right direction; however, bond money eventually runs dry. To meet California's long-term housing needs, we must find a permanent, steady, dedicated source of funding.

Discussions about this "Permanent Source" are beginning. Lynn Jacobs, Director of the California Department of Housing and Community Development, is convening regional meetings to explore funding sources as well as program and implementation ideas.

The California Housing Consortium (CHC) and Housing California are also working to build support for the Permanent Source.
